Young Living is a world leader in essential oils, possibly the best. I am not going to get into the politics of which brand is best. I did my research and you should too. I was most impressed with Young Living’s company values and their Seed to Seal process.
To become a member of the company, you have to buy a starter kit. The starter kit is $180 once you add in taxes and shipping- an investment for anyone. It comes with 11 5mL bottles of Young Living’s best selling essential oils. They are the “must-haves”.
When I first saw this I thought, “but I only want lavender”!
I did not need all of these oils at the time. I really just wanted to up my bubble bath game.
However, after I looked into the benefits and uses of each of these oils, I started to realize how I could start incorporating them into my life and improve more than just my bath game.
R.C. – Respiratory Care
R.C. stands for respiratory care. It is known for providing relief from allergy symptoms, congestion and sore throats. It is a blend made up of Myrtle, Eucalyptus Globulus, Marjoram, Pine, Eucalyptus Citriodora, Lavender, Cypress, Eucalyptus Radiata, Spruce, and Peppermint. This oil might not be the best to apply directly onto the skin. Most show some sensitivity to it. But, you can dilute it with a carrier oil such as coconut oil and rub it on your chest, back and feet. You can also diffuse it, too. This is perfect for adding to a steaming bowl of water. Place a towel over your head and inhale the steam. Combine it with Thieves to enhance the effects.
Frankincense – Liquid Gold
Considered a “holy” oil, Frankincense is well known during the time of Christ for its anointing and healing powers. It was at one time valued more than gold. The scent increase spiritual awareness and promotes meditation. It improves attitude and uplifts spirits. It is a key ingredient in many of Young Living products including the skin care line. I add a drop into my face moisturizer. It helps tone and reduce signs of aging.
Thieves – Immunity Support
Thieves might be the most loved oil. The name comes from a group of 15th century thieves who rubbed oils on themselves to avoid contracting the plague while they robbed the bodies of the dead. In exchange for a more lenient punishment, they exchanged the blend of herbs and spices they used. With that being said, Thieves is the immunity blend. It is the key ingredient in all of Young Living’s cleaning products. It smells fantastic when diffused, sort of like baking spices. I rub this oil on my feet each night to boost y immune system to prevent contracting any plagues! 😉
Digize – Digestive Support
As hinted by the name, Digize relieves digestive problems including stomach aches, gas and bloating. It is a blend of Tarragon, Ginger, Peppermint, Juniper, Fennel, Anise, Patchouli, and Lemongrass. I apply this oil directly onto my stomach when I am feeling nauseous. It is an oil that can also be ingested. I do not prefer the taste so I would add it to a vegetable capsule.
Lemon – Flavor Booster
A must-have, Lemon essential oil has been widely used in skin care to cleanse, reduce wrinkles and combat acne. It has a great flavor and can be added to water or your next recipe. It helps digestion and cleanse the urinary tract. The fragrance is invigorating and enhancing. It is the perfect oil to diffuse while cleaning as it induces relaxation and boost immunity.
Copaiba – Relaxation
Copaiba comes from trees and has been used for centuries amongst different groups to promote wellness. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory and is known to help teething babies. This oil can also help the respiratory tract and urinary tract. It has a high percentage of beta-caryophyllene. It is very relaxing when diffused with Lavender.
Stress Away – #OfficeLife
Stress Away is the “bonus oil” in the starter kit. I was really excited to try this one out. The most interesting is the scent. It’s sweet. It is a blend of Copaiba, Lime, Cedarwood, Vanilla, Ocotea and Lavender. It helps with normal, everyday stress, improves mental response, promotes relaxation and brings feelings of peace and tranquility. This is a great oil to wear on a diffuser bracelet or diffuse in the office. 😉
Peppermint – Relieves Head Tension
Peppermint is one of the oldest and most highly regarded herbs for soothing digestion. It is a key ingredient in Digize like we talked about earlier. When applied to the skin, it has a cooling sensation. It should be diluted with a carrier oil because it is a very strong oil that may strong on sensitive skin. I love to apply it to my temples to relieve head tension. It is invigorating and great to help you wake up in the mornings. Inhaling Peppermint can stimulate the brain and may help you focus more. I like adding a few drops into my shampoo bottle. The Peppermint feels great on your scalp in the morning!
Panaway – For Sore Muscles
Panaway is known for its muscle support. It is a blend of Wintergreen, Helichrysum, Clove and Peppermint. A lot of people keep it handy in their work out bag. It relieves deep tissue pain and is a main ingredient in Young Living’s Cool Azul pain relief cream. I use Panaway when it’s that time of the month. It is great for when you have a crick in your neck or sore hands after typing all day. I suggest diluting this oil with coconut oil.
Lavender – Sleepy Time
Lavender, one of my absolute favorites and the whole reason I got into the world of essential oils. It is often known as the “gate-way oil”! Obviously, you know lavender to be the scent of body washes and bubble bath salts. It can be very calming and has been studies in reducing mental stress. When I diffuse it in the evenings, it can calm me down and help me fall asleep faster. Lavender is also know to help regenerate cells. I apply it to every bump and bruise. It is also a great ingredient to add to your face wash as it helps with blemishes.
Purificiation – Eliminates Odors
This blend is known for cleansing and disinfecting the air and neutralizing odors. It is a blend made up of Citronella, Lemongrass, Rosemary, Melaleuca Alternifolia, Lavandin and Myrtle. I apply it directly onto pimples, put a few drops in the garbage can and diffuse it with Lemon when I clean. Add a couple of drops to a cotton ball and put in your fridge or in the air vent of your car.
The Young Living starter kit seems overwhelming when you are just getting started however, it is a great way to test multiple oils at an incredible price. If you bought each of these oils indicidually, they would quickly add up to over $300. The starter kit (with a diffuser) is only $180 AFTER shipping and taxes.
